A dimensional, handcrafted greeting card made from layered paper and glue.
Inspired by one of Maine's rarest and luckiest catches, our Blue Lobster greeting card brings the extraordinary blue lobster to paper. Estimated to occur in roughly one out of every two million lobsters, a brilliant blue lobster is an unusual sight in Maine waters.
Our original design begins with a reflective blue foil silhouette that creates the lobster's long antennae and slender legs and forms the foundation beneath its body. Blue glitter paper pieces are precision-cut by machine, then arranged freehand and individually glued by hand over the foil to build the raised claws, body, shell segments, and tail fan. The freehand placement leaves narrow lines of reflective blue foil visible between the pieces, defining the lobster’s segmented shell. Two tiny matte black paper eyes complete the lobster and give him just a hint of personality.
A blue lobster doesn't show up every day, which makes it a pretty good thing to find in your mailbox. The card is blank inside, ready for whatever brought this particular blue lobster their way: a lucky break, something worth celebrating, a hello from Maine, or simply a reason to make someone smile.
