Handcrafted for Good

How Mainely Cards gives paper purpose

Two Organizations, One Purpose

Our work is rooted in a simple idea: greeting cards help people stay connected across time, distance, and circumstance. It’s the reason we created Wicked Good Cards and Mainely Cards.

We’re Shannon and Michael Cyr, founders of both organizations and the people behind the work you’ll read about here.

In 2025, we founded Wicked Good Cardsa Maine-based 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to making handmade greeting cards available inside care communities. Our mission is to ensure people navigating illness, recovery, transition, or loss have access to a handmade card when they want to send a message of encouragement, gratitude, or love to someone they care about.

As cards move through our partner communities, they are shared between patients and loved ones, caregivers and residents, staff and families, supporting an ongoing exchange of care.

We believe dignity is supported when people are seen as whole individuals, not only by the circumstances or diagnoses they face. Choosing a card for someone you care about is a small act of independence and agency. It allows people to maintain meaningful relationships and show up for others even during times of vulnerability.

To help sustain and expand this work, we established Mainely Cards LLC in 2026. Through the sale of original handcrafted greeting cards, Mainely Cards helps fund the mission of Wicked Good Cards and produces cards that are donated to care communities throughout Southern Maine. Together, these two organizations form a simple cycle of creativity, care, and connection.

How Mainely Cards Contributes

A portion of all Mainely Cards proceeds supports Wicked Good Cards operations and the effort to make cards available within nonprofit care communities. Mainely Cards also donates cards directly to Wicked Good Cards each week for placement within care communities.

From Studio to Community

All cards are created in the Mainely Cards studio in historic Saco, Maine. Once donated, Wicked Good Cards distributes cards to care communities in Southern Maine.

Buy 1 + Donate 1

Some cards in the Mainely Cards shop include a Buy 1 + Donate 1 option so you can purchase one card and donate one to Wicked Good Cards. For most card types, the donated card is a handcrafted duplicate of the one you purchased. For select collections, the donated card is a designated design chosen for its durability, versatility, and suitability for care community use.

Regardless of how you contribute, the donated card is not sent to you. Instead, it is documented in the Wicked Good Cards Giving Gallery, a public record of card acceptance and delivery.

Where Donated Cards are Placed

Wicked Good Cards provides handmade cards to nonprofit care organizations where people may be navigating illness, recovery, transition, or loss.

These settings include:

  • hospice centers

  • hospitals

  • shelters

  • nonprofit care facilities

  • community organizations

How Donated Cards are Used

Cards are made available within care communities so people have access to a card when they want to send a message of encouragement, gratitude, or love. Patients, residents, family members, volunteers, caregivers, and staff may all use them depending on what feels supportive in the moment.
