Blue and White Lighthouse | Maine Symbols Card
Along Maine's coastline, lighthouses are traditionally painted white for visibility in fog and changing weather. Blue would never be used on a working lighthouse because it blends into the sea and sky. That made it an interesting challenge.
We wanted to keep the familiar lighthouse form while reimagining it in sapphire blue. On a card, a lighthouse doesn't need to guide mariners. It needs to connect with the person holding it. Blue shifts the design from function to feeling, transforming a working structure into a symbol of support, encouragement, and steady presence.
To create the card, we selected sapphire blue and white glitter cardstock for the lighthouse body, along with layered paper details for the railing, windows, door, and lantern room. A warm yellow glow in the lantern room suggests a beacon in use, while a copper glitter top adds contrast and a reflective finish.
The result is a distinctive lighthouse card designed to encourage, support, and connect.
